Let’s read Genesis 3:9
9-But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?”
-After Adam and Eve disobeyed, God called Adam.
-Did God call Adam because He did not know where Adam was?
-No.
-God knows everything.
-God sees everything.
-No one can hide from God.
-Why did God call Adam?
-God wanted Adam to come to Him and confess his sin.
-God wanted Adam to come to Him and admit that he had disobeyed God.
-God wanted Adam to come to Him and admit that he had listened to Satan.
-Why can God call Adam?
-Because God created Adam.
-Because Adam belonged to God.
-Because God created Adam to obey God.
-Why can God call all people?
-Because God created all people.
-Because all people belong to God.
-Because God created all people to obey God.
-God has not changed.
-God still calls people today.
-How does God call people today?
-Firstly, God calls people through His creation.
-God’s creation shows that there is a God, and that God has made everything, and that God wants us to listen to Him.
-Secondly, God calls people through His Book, the Bible.
-God’s Book, the Bible, is God’s Message to you.
-God’s Book, the Bible, is God talking to you.
-What did Adam say when God called him?
Let’s read Genesis 3:10
10-Adam answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
-Why were Adam and Eve afraid of God?
-Because they had disobeyed God.
-Here is an illustration:
-If the owner of a field comes when a thief is stealing his maize, will the thief hide?
-Yes.
-Because Adam and Eve sinned and disobeyed God, they hid from God.
-What did God then say to Adam?
Let’s read Genesis 3:11
11-And the LORD God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
-Why did God ask Adam if he had eaten the fruit?
-Did God not know that Adam ate the fruit?
-Yes.
-Why did God ask Adam if he had eaten the fruit?
-God wanted Adam to come to Him and confess his sin.

-Why can God question Adam?
-Because God was the One who created Adam.
-Because God created all people, God can question all people.
-One day, God will question all people, and all people will have to answer God.

Let’s read Genesis 3:12-13
12-The man said, “The woman you put here with me–she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
13-Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
-Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the snake.
-God already knew the truth.
-No truth is hidden from God.
-What does someone do when he is caught stealing?
-He tries to blame someone else.
-We may be able to deceive others by blaming someone else.
-We cannot deceive God by blaming someone else.
-God always knows the truth.
-God always punishes those who disobey Him.
-God always punishes those who sin.
-Firstly, God punished the snake.
Let’s read Genesis 3:14
14-So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.”
-How did God punish the snake?
-The snake must now crawl on its stomach.
-Why did God punished the snake?
-The snake did not talk to Eve.
-Only Satan talked to Eve.
-Why did God punish the snake?
-Because God punishes all sin.
-Because Satan used the snake to sin.
-God punishes all sin.
-Secondly, God punished Eve.
Let’s read Genesis 3:16
16-To the woman, the LORD God said, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
-How did God punish Eve?
-Eve would give birth to children with great pain.
-The punishment of Eve is the punishment for all women.
-Now, all women give birth to children with great pain.
-Thirdly, God punished Adam.
Let’s read Genesis 3:17-19
17-To Adam, the LORD God said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’ Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.
18-It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.
19-By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”
-How did God punish Adam?
-Adam will cultivate the ground with much sweat, and gain little maize.
-The punishment of Adam is the punishment for all men.
-Now, all men cultivate the ground with much sweat, and gain little maize.
-How else did God punish Adam?
-God cursed the whole earth.
-What are the signs that God cursed the earth?
-There are many thorns and weeds.
-There are many droughts and floods.
-There are many poisonous plants and snakes.
-Animals bite people.
-People must work hard.
-People get sick.
-People die.
-Because Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the earth is cursed.
-Because Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the earth is full of evil.
-Because Adam and Eve disobeyed God, all people die.
-God’s punishment for disobedience is eternal death.
-God’s punishment for sin is eternal death.
-Let’s read what God said after He punished Adam and Eve.
Let’s read Genesis 3:15
15-The LORD God said, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”
-To whom was God talking?
-God was talking to Satan.
-What did God say to Satan?
-God said that someone would crush Satan’s head even though Satan would strike his heel.
-Who would crush Satan’s head?
-The Savior.
-Shortly after God punished Adam and Eve, what did God promise to do?
-Shortly after God punished Adam and Eve, God promised to send the Savior.
-What would the Savior do?
-The Savior would come to save people from the power of sin.
-The Savior would come to save people from the power of death.
-The Savior would come to save people from the power of Satan.
-The Savior would come to fight against Satan.
-Satan would wound the Savior, but the Savior would defeat Satan.
-Who would the Savior be?
-The Savior would be the Son of a virgin.
-Why did God promise to send the Savior?
-Because God loves all people very much.
-Did Adam and Eve merit God’s love?
-No.
-Why did Adam and Eve not merit God’s love?
-Because they disobeyed God and listened to Satan.
-What did Adam and Eve’s disobedience merit?
-Their disobedience merited eternal death.
-Adam and Eve’s disobedience merited death.
-But God promised to send the Savior to save them.
-Here is an illustration:
-A man who is dying comes to your house.
-You buy medicine and food for him.
-He stays many days with you.
-Finally, he recovers.
-Before the man leaves, he steals your cow.
-Later, the man returns, and is once again ready to die.
-You once again buy medicine and food for him.
-Once again the man recovers.
-The man stole your cow, and merited punishment.
-Yet, you helped the man to recover once again.
-Adam and Eve’s disobedience merited death.
-Yet God promised to send the Savior to save them.
