From Lodwar, Kenya among the Pokot tribe:
“My name is Angeline. I am sure that Jesus saves. He has saved me.
I got married to help my father who was desperately in need of financial help to treat my younger sister who had a heart problem. The man whom I married promised to pay all of the hospital bills if I agreed to marry him. I had no option as I needed to help my sister.
The first year of marriage was okay, but when I delivered a baby girl, all hell broke loose. My husband started mistreating me, as he wanted a boy more than a girl. I was so mistreated by my husband’s entire family, and they asked my husband to marry a second wife. This only added more pain.
I got some relief when my husband’s second wife also gave birth to a baby girl. Wanting a baby boy, my husband married a third wife who also bore to him a baby girl.
In my struggles, I went to church. The pastor taught us about a Savior who saves us in all situations. He taught us about Hannah who was barren, but God gave her a son, Samuel. Sarah was also barren, but God gave her Isaac who became the ancestor of the Savior Jesus Christ.
My husband was planning to marry a fourth wife as we were going through the Bible lessons. The pastor taught us that Jesus came to correct what sin and Satan had destroyed. Going through the lessons, it gave me hope and I began to love and trust Jesus.
I gave my life to Him and asked him to bless me with a baby boy to save our family. I had forgiven my husband for all he had done to me. I got my second pregnancy, and I kept asking God for a baby boy. The elders of the church convinced my husband not to marry another wife until I gave birth.
We continued with the lessons. I learned how God saved the Israelites and many other stories from the Bible. My life changed and I started to share the love with my husband’s other two wives. We all joined the study and prayed together.
God answered! I am a proud mother of a son I named David who will save his people from Goliath. My husband didn’t marry again. These booklets saved our marriage. Thank you, and glory to God!”
