Peace has been restored in Eshirulo village, Bunyore, Kenya after a terror leader surrendered to Christ. Name withheld:
“I have been a leader of a group of young men who have been stealing and robbing homes in Bunyore. I became a part of the group through a friend who was a member.
In 2023, we raided a home, breaking in through the back door and stealing all that we could carry. The owner called the police, and the police came to arrest us. Our leader was shot dead, yet I was able to escape with the bag I stole.
When I got home, I opened the bag and found a Bible, some booklets, and some money. I only wanted the money and, not interested in the rest, I threw it all under my bed.
After mourning and burying our leader, I was chosen to lead the group. I led the group for another robbery, this time in the town of Luanda. Before we began, we surveyed the shop and everything seemed to be fine. When it was time, we went in.
The owner saw us, and set off the alarm. There were police who were close by, and they began shooting at us. We had borrowed a gun from another group, and my friend, who had the gun, began shooting back at the police. This allowed us to get out of the shop and run. I was shot in my left arm, but managed to get away, arriving at home with only a wound.
Arriving at home, I took off my blood-stained clothes, and threw them under the bed. After a week and after everything had calmed down, I decided to take out the blood-stained clothes and burn them. Then, I came across the Bible and the booklets once again.
As there was not much to do with a wounded arm, I stayed at home and started reading the booklets marked Swahili lessons 1-10 and 11-20. As I had never read the Bible before, I began reading the booklets. I read all of the booklets and wanted to read more, but I had no idea as to where I could find the next lessons.
After a month, my arm was healed, and I wanted to go back to the group. I remembered, however, what I had read from the booklets about my sin, Satan, and God. God had created me to be a good man, but now, I was evil. This kept ringing in my mind, so I decided to visit a pastor who knew that I was a bad man. I took the Bible and the booklets with me.
When I asked the pastor if he could get me the other lessons, he promised that he would. After three days, the pastor brought to me the remaining lessons, 21-68. It was then that I became convinced that I belonged to the devil who has used me to steal and to destroy.
I was in the bad tribe. I was worshipping other gods rather than the true God. I was smoking marijuana. I was listening to the devil just like Cain who killed his brother. By the grace of God, I went back to the pastor who led me to Christ. I surrendered my life to Him.
From there, I called my group together. I told them that I have given my life to Christ. I also told them that we can earn a living in a good manner rather than stealing. We all agreed to begin afresh brand new lives.
From the money we had saved, we bought two motorcycles and now we are doing a taxi business. Thanks to the booklets I stole, they brought peace to me and my entire village. When we are not transporting people, we sit together and read the stories again and again. God has forgiven me and I believe that He will forgive my friends also.”
