From Joseph Okello was has been serving God in Yumbe, Uganda since August this year:
“Serving God among the refugees, I met people from the tribe called Madi ( Ma’adi). The origin of the tribe is in South Sudan, but living now in Uganda, some speak the Luganda language.
One day, I met Yakub, a Muslim leader in this area, and his wife Jelila. Jelila had this to say:
‘My husband and I were married two years ago. We wanted to have a baby. We recited all of the Quran in order to get a baby. We also went to the witch doctor. This, by the way, is allowed in our religion. Even after all of this, we still did not have a baby.
A few years ago, a missionary came to share the Word of God with us, but he taught in a most unloving way, calling the prophet Muhammad names. It broke our hearts, and we chased him away. My husband, being a Muslim leader, protected us, and would not allow anyone to become a believer in Christianity. During all of this time, I was so desperate for a child.
Then, Brother Joseph started sharing the Word of God using stories. For the first time, I felt that I could listen to these stories. They were touching my heart [and were not tearing down my religion].
At this time, I became pregnant, but when I went to the doctor’s office, the doctor told me that my baby was dead. All of the scannings indicated that my baby was dead.
I remembered when Brother Joseph had taught how God gave Sarah a child after many years of having trusted in God. I had touched my heart. At that time, I could not share this with my husband as I had secretly been attending those classes.
When Brother Joseph asked me if he could pray with me as God could do anything, I agreed without hesitation. Joseph prayed with me and I believed that God could do anything. That night, I had a wonderful sleep.
Wondering how to tell my husband about this, I asked him if we could go to listen to some of the teachings that I have been listening to. He agreed and we went to the teachings. Together, we learned about a loving God who wants all people to be saved.’
Two weeks ago, Jelila gave birth to her baby in a normal delivery which was totally surprising to her doctors. She has now believed in Christ, and her husband, after a long time of attending the classes, has believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as well.
Pray for the new baby to grow with loving parents and just as this baby is a miracle, may many other people be transformed through this testimony.”
