- What was the question that Jesus asked His disciples?
-“Who do people say I am?”
- What did the disciples reply?
-Some of the people thought that Jesus was John the Baptist, some thought Jesus was Elijah, and some thought Jesus was one of the prophets who had come back to life.
- Was Jesus John the Baptist, Elijah, or one of the prophets who had come back to life?
-No.
- What did Jesus next ask His disciples?
-“Who do you say I am?”
- What did Peter answer?
-“You are the Christ.”
- If we do not believe that Jesus is God the Savior, can we be saved?
-No.
- What did Jesus teach His disciples about that which was coming?
-That the leaders of the people would kill Jesus, but that He would rise from the dead after three days.
- What happened to Jesus on the mountain?
-Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John.
- What does it mean that Jesus was transfigured?
-It means that God who was on the inside of Jesus shined out to the outside.
- Who was Elijah?
-Elijah was a prophet of God who had lived on the earth before Jesus was born.
-Many years ago, before Elijah died, God had taken him to heaven.
- Who was Moses?
-Moses was the one who had led the Israelites out of Egypt.
-Many years ago, Moses had died, and God had taken Moses’ to heaven.
- How did Elijah and Moses return to earth?
-God the Father sent Elijah and Moses down from heaven to talk with Jesus.
- Why did God want Elijah and Moses to talk with Jesus?
-God wanted Elijah and Moses to encourage Jesus because of Jesus’ coming death.
-Many of the Jews in Jesus’ day were shepherds.
-The shepherds would look after large flocks of sheep.
-Because most of the land in Israel was dry, it was difficult at times for the shepherds to find grass for their sheep.
-Therefore, the shepherds would take their sheep and walk very far in order to look for enough grass for all of their sheep.
-Because they would walk very far, the shepherds would sleep at night out in the fields with their sheep.
-Because there were thieves to steal the sheep and wild animals to eat the sheep, the shepherds had to protect their sheep at night.
-How did the shepherds protect their sheep at night?
-Before nightfall, the shepherds would build a corral of rocks or thorns, and make one opening as a door.
-When the corral was finished, the shepherd would herd his sheep inside of the corral, where would the shepherd sleep?
-The shepherd would sleep in the opening.
-Why would the shepherd sleep in the opening?
-To protect the sheep that were inside the corral.
-Because the shepherd slept in the opening, he was like the door of the corral.
-No thieves or wild animals were able to get into the sheep without first meeting the shepherd.
-One day, Jesus used an illustration to teach about himself.
Let’s read John 10:7
7-Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the door for the sheep.”
-What did Jesus mean when He said that He was the door for the sheep?
-Jesus meant that He was the way through whom we are able to be saved from death.
-Just as the shepherd was the door to save the sheep from death, Jesus is the door to save us from death.
-Just as thieves were outside of the corral wanting to steal the sheep, Satan and his demons want to steal all people.
-Just as wild animals were outside of the corral wanting to eat the sheep, sin and death want to eat all people.
-Just like a thief, Satan has been stealing your ancestors for many years.
-Satan steals people in order to destroy them.
-Just as the shepherds loved their sheep, so Jesus loves His sheep.
-Who are Jesus’ sheep?
-Those who know that their sin calls for death, and who call out to Jesus to save them.
-Jesus wants to save us from sin and death.
-Jesus wants to save us from Satan and his demons.
-What else did Jesus say?
Let’s read John 10:8
8-Jesus said, “All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.”
-Before Jesus was born, other people came to the Jews and said that they were the Savior.
-Jesus said that these people were like thieves and robbers.
-What else did Jesus say?
Let’s read John 10:9
9-Jesus said, “I am the door; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.”
-Jesus said that He was the only door by which we can be saved.
-Just like there was only one door into the corral of the sheep, so Jesus is the only door into eternal life.
-Some people say that there are many doors to God.
-Is this true?
-No. This is a lie.
-Some people say that there is the door of the ancestors to God.
-Is this true?
-No. This is also a lie.
-Jesus said that He was the only door by which we can be saved.
-In the days of Noah, how many doors did God command Noah to build in the boat?
-Just one.
-How does the one door in Noah’s boat remind us of Jesus?
-Just as there was only one door into Noah’s boat, so Jesus is the only door to eternal life.
-Just as those who entered Noah’s boat by the one door were saved from death, so those who believe in Jesus will be saved from death.
-What else did Jesus say?
Let’s read John 10:10
10-Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
-Jesus said that the thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy.
-Who is the thief who comes only to steal, kill, and destroy?
-Satan.
-Why did Jesus come from heaven?
-Jesus came to give us life, and to give us eternal life.
-Jesus and Satan are different.
-Satan came to steal, kill, and destroy the sheep.
-Jesus came to give life to the sheep.
-What else did Jesus say?
Let’s read John 10:11
11-Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
-Jesus said that He was the good Shepherd.
-Jesus said that He loved His sheep so much that He was willing to do what for them?

-If you want to know the truth, then you will turn to Jesus.
-Jesus also said that He is life.
-If you want eternal life, then you will turn to Jesus.
-No one comes to God the Father except through Jesus.
